Money is the key(Discussion of three messages from the short story Araby by James Joyce) The short story Araby written by James Joyce focuses on the life of a little boy, a little boy who has low expectations in this cruel world. He soon learns that, rich or poor, money will always be a necessity in life. James Joyce did not name the boy who tells this story from the first-person point of view. As this tale progresses, we realize that this young man is planning to go to the mall to pick out a gift for his crush. He believes that if he buys a gift for this girl, she will start to have the same feelings for the boy. In Araby written by James Joyce, we come to the conclusion that he was angry not only about the unnecessary trip to the mall, but he was especially angry about the idea of not having money to buy a gift for his crush. He believes that without buying a gift, the girl will never give him a fair chance. He not only feels anger, but also a sense of sadness. The young boy from Arabia has a deep interest in a girl he has never really conversed with. The anger continues to grow as he realizes he has transformed into some sort of monster, quoted in James Joyce's short story Araby, “Looking into the darkness I saw myself as a creature, driven and mocked by vanity; and my eyes burned with anguish and anger.” James Joyce's Araby has three very important emotions involved in the boy's feelings: frustration, embarrassment, and anger. He felt frustrated before arriving at the mall. He felt embarrassed when the young cashier asked him if he was going to buy something. After leaving the mall, he felt angry. The anger exploded when the boy started to leave the mall, he couldn't buy a gift for the girl he had a crush on. In the story Araby you tend to realize that the world revolves around him
