Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one's own death. Depression and medications are two major risk factors linked to suicide. Suicide cases reveal many warning signs and risk factors, show strong links to drugs and depression, and can have devastating effects on families. There are many warning signs and risk factors associated with suicide. Warning signs are clues that show someone is thinking about suicide. If someone continually talks or thinks about death, they may exhibit possible suicidal behavior. Someone contemplating suicide may also call or visit people to say goodbye and even review their will. Having mood swings or changes or saying “I want to go out” are also warning signs. Storing weapons or guns is a warning sign shown in cases of suicide. Some risk factors related to suicide cases could be any chronic pain or chronic disease are also shown as a couple of factors. Imprisonment is indicated as a risk factor in outcomes and cases of suicide. Being surrounded by other suicidal people who have the same thoughts or who may encourage the behavior is a risk. 20-50% of suicide victims have already attempted suicide, so previous suicide attempts are also a significant risk factor (Smith). Often, if a person is thinking about suicide, they will be shown warning signs and risk factors. Numerous cases of suicide have been linked to some type of depression or psychological disorder. One in six suffers from mood disorders or depression. When someone suffers from untreated or incompletely treated depression, the result is often suicide.
