The cause and effect of the tsunami in Thailand in 2004The tsunami in Thailand that occurred on December 26, 2004 was by far the largest tsunami catastrophe of human history. It was triggered by a magnitude 9.1-9.3 earthquake along the Indian-Australian subduction zone off the north coast of Sumatra. The tsunami waves moved mainly in an east-west direction and caused severe damage along the coast of southern Thailand. Unpredictably, it was a violent earthquake under the sea that gave rise to the massive waves that hit more than a dozen countries in South Asia. It also destroyed thousands of kilometers of coastline and even submerged entire islands permanently. Across the region, the tsunami killed more than 150,000 people and left another million injured, homeless and without food or drinking water, making it perhaps the most destructive tsunami in modern history. Despite peninsular Thailand's location facing the northern part of this subduction zone, the lack of written historical records, coupled with the absence of major local seismic activity, the tsunami caused thousands of casualties and huge economic losses in the most popular tourist regions of the country. Thailand. Immediately after the disaster, numerous organizations and individual citizens aided and contributed to this devastating tsunami. Indeed, the tsunami in Thailand was a global event, with significant wave action felt around the world. In this context, I am focusing more on the key characteristics of the natural causes of the tsunami, the psychological effects on citizens, the prospect of socio-economic impacts and the consequences of the tsunami disaster. What triggered this terrible natural disaster that took place off the west coast of... middle of paper... the catastrophic event into an opportunity for the future. Even though the December 2004 tsunami ended with a huge death toll, ongoing trauma, and homelessness for millions of Asians, they can still recover from this horrific event. If anything good on a human scale can come from these adversities, it will surely be outweighed by the compassion and generosity the world will reveal to the survivors. I must admit that I find it very difficult to let it dawn on me that it can happen to any of us anywhere at any time in the world. It may not be a tsunami that these citizens experienced, but there are other natural disasters we can encounter as well. It definitely was a great experience for me to write this article and find out the truth about the tsunami and the overall effects of what these people have to deal with..
