It is evident that Western cultural values are spread throughout the world through the film industry. The films are controlled by Western funding and vividly reflect Western perspectives. Between the lines of the scripts, viewers are invited to connect Western culture and “whiteness” with positive, therefore legitimate, values and to accept the dominant position of whites. Film is a powerful medium, so films were created with emotional designs on the individual audience in order to control their minds, so Hollywood serves as a functional medium to establish the concept of white supremacy. Hollywood films are therefore the main tools to establish the mentality of white supremacy which automatically triggers the message that white people are far superior to any other race. Ideological hegemony theorizes how relations of domination and exploitation are rooted in dominant ideas of society. To the extent that they are internalized, dominant ideas induce consent to these relationships on the part of the dominated and exploited. Blood Diamond and In the Heat of the Night are two distinct films in which the filmmakers present us with two different ideological concepts. Both films portray white and non-white consciousness. Blood Diamond attacked their own race while In the Heat of the Night whites attacked non-whites. Blood Diamond showed this in a more violent way than In the Heat of the Night. The consciousness of both films was power and authority. Black people in each of these films are seen as supporting characters, which is usually a way to promote white supremacy. The film Blood Diamond discusses the complexity of conflicts with the involvement of the Western group in Sierra Leone. This concept also proves...... middle of paper...... back. The white males probably didn't expect the black policeman's reaction and because he reacted they sent people after him threatening him to leave but he didn't. he stood up for himself and stood his ground by not acting on the threat he received. This film gives us insight into the perceived relationship that existed between the different races in that era. The sincere fiction in this film was to show that white people saw the non-white officer by him thinking that because he is a cop he can interrogate a white male. Even though he wore the police uniform he was still not considered an equal or a man of power, he was still considered black. We as a society tend to dismiss movies as mere forms of entertainment. Both films give us different perspectives on hegemonic ideology and society's understanding of the roles of whites and blacks and what they both mean to us..
