Martin King Luther Jr.'s famous "Letter from Birmingham Jail" is one of the best writings I have ever read for its ability to expound ideas and create a an in-depth idea and create an in-depth argument as to why what he was doing was right. Throughout this piece King used rhetoric to persuade his readers and create a convincing argument. The use of logos, ethos and pathos were all present as he attempted to win over a group of clergymen who contested his right to protest as an outsider and extremist. I think the use of logos was the most powerful and important because he logically demonstrates each point made objectively and uses indisputable evidence to support his claims. First, Martin King Luther used logos throughout his letter. He has clarified the reasons for his thesis and supports them well. These arguments are logical in their appeal. For example, at the beginning of his letter he responds to the priests' assertion that the demonstrations are imprudent and premature.
