Throughout human history, gardens have been created to nourish the spirit. Landscape is a relationship between nature and culture; expresses who we are and where we come from. Furthermore, landscape architecture advances together with society and adapts to changing tastes and ways of life. It is primarily the search for a balance between the adaptation of the environment and the advanced society. We can observe the different design styles and processes of each culture simply by looking at the types of elements, plants and regulations it uses. For example, in the United States a designer takes ADA regulations into consideration while in Mexico they do not, which will result in a different design approach. This means we may see a similar design containing a bridge spanning a pond, but one design may incorporate railings and the other may not. This tells us how a company values the importance of incorporating safety and accessibility for disabled people simply by using different elements. The following essay intends to discuss how culture can contribute to the design of an outdoor space and how it is reflected in the work of a landscape architect. To accomplish this task I will examine two landscape architects from different regions and witness how different but also how united they are by observing how they incorporate elements of their culture and other societies.
