Fast food and personal responsibilityA response to Ninos P. MalekFast food is one of the most controversial topics; most people tend to blame fast food industries due to obesity or contracted disease and never take responsibility for their actions. In this article "Fast Food and Personal Responsibility" (2003), written by Ninos P. Malek, Malek tries to argue and show people that it is not entirely the fault of the fast food industries if people are obese or sick. He supports using 3 different supporting examples; first he says that “high school students blame their poor diet on the school canteen” (Malek, 2003, p.309). Most students tend to do this, but in reality most canteens sell healthy and unhealthy food, but people always need something to blame and never take responsibility for their actions, secondly it says that no one puts people at gunpoint to make them buy food quickly (2003, p.309). That's actually true, but he still forgot to mention that they are trying to brainwash people into buying their food through their incorrect advertisements. Third and finally, Malek tries to compare smoking to fast food, because then tobacco companies were also sued for almost the same reason, which concerns health. Malek's argument was accurate because people need to learn to take responsibility for their actions and should know that when they buy fast food they are weighing their own costs and benefits. But it didn't show the immoral and unethical things that fast food industries were doing by using bad advertisements. Fast food industries should not be held responsible for this because everyone has freedom of choice and can choose whether to eat it or not....... middle of paper ...... product towards children by promising them toys and gifts for children and you can also find inside some of those fast food restaurants games that attract children. Because of what they are doing, one in six children are obese, the parents are to be blamed, but it is still the fast food industries selling that product and marketing it towards those children. I simply believe that everyone has a choice. You don't have to eat fast food and if you can't stop eating it, try eating less. Don't blame the fast food industries for not being disciplined. If you hate what they are doing, just disbar them. You know it hurts you, you know it will ultimately harm your well-being; you know it can kill you, but you eat it anyway and then blame something or someone else. It's not fair, but life isn't fair either.
