Reflection on Learning Taking this English course has helped me improve my English in many ways. I learned a lot of really important information that I didn't know before starting this course. I'm sure I'm more knowledgeable now than I was when I started this course. Some of the things I learned in this course were about how to become a better reader and writer. I also learned to write with a specific purpose. In the past, everything I wrote was based on suggestions and book essays that I didn't understand what I was writing about, and now what I write has a specific purpose. There are several methods that I learned this semester that have helped me significantly improve my reading comprehension. During the reading I did, I used some reading strategies that were very helpful to me in many ways. In fact, many, if not all good readers at some point in their lives use at least one of these reading strategies. A reading strategy I use when I read is that I read everything first without leaving any marks in the reading. Reading once helps me have a general understanding of the material. After I gain a general understanding of what I read, I reread the material again, but this time I use some reading strategies that help me remember the material and gain a better reading comprehension. One strategy I really like to use when reading is to highlight or underline key points that I think are important to the reading. Another reading strategy I use is that, if there's a sentence I don't understand, I reread it several times until I understand the meaning, and then I make a quick side note explaining what I think that sentence means. I also like to rephrase any sentence that doesn't dis... middle of paper ...... our writing looks perfect, but others may see it differently. It is extremely important to receive feedback from others because peer reviewers will find errors and make suggestions to improve your writing. The workshops we did in class help me because every time I received feedback on my writing I made changes to improve it. There is no doubt that after receiving feedback from others, my writing seemed much better. Having said all this, it is clear that this English course has helped me significantly. I learn several techniques that have helped me improve both reading and writing. Now that I reflect on all the information I've learned, I realize how much more prepared I am when it comes to reading and writing. I will no longer skim through reading like I did in the past, and I definitely won't write essays the night before the deadline like I used to.
