This has contributed to 18% of Americans being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder caused by an amount of stress that is too great to handle. Simply put, teenagers are too stressed for their own good. Stress is tearing teenagers apart and this is a problem that needs to be stopped. The effect of an overabundance of stress in the lives of teenagers can be explored through three main aspects: how stress affects the body, how stress affects the brain and how stress can be identified in the lives of teenagers. Stress is extremely hard on the human body. This can leave many systems of the body in chaos and struggling to keep up with daily demands. According to Stress Among Teens, “Stress hammers the body's major functions.” As stated by Stressed out: Teens and Adults Respond Differently, “Too much stress can produce serious damage to the heart, vascular system, immune system, and changes in areas of the brain.” According to the physical effects of long-term stress, habitual stress can lead to a permanent increase in blood pressure.
