Tradition or not, when someone gets sick they take them to the doctor or in the most serious cases to the hospital. Unfortunately, this is not the case in my very traditional family. In Hispanic culture, home remedies are the solution to every medical problem. Normally I wouldn't mind, but when you're seriously ill and in desperate need of medical attention, tradition should come second. The appreciation I have for modern medicine grew in the summer of 2012. I traveled to Mexico for the summer embracing the culture and learning the language. Unfortunately that's not all I learned. The summer was going great, I had spent every waking moment with my family, enjoying the beautiful weather and basking in the sun. However, throughout my stay it seems like my stomach didn't enjoy the food very much. My great and wise grandmother's traditional solution is to drink her magic potion, herbal tea. The pain and agony this little, frail old woman made me feel made me despise her and her so-called "traditions." I love my grandmother with all my heart, but when a person is affected...
