With the help of key allies such as Venice and the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantines were able to accumulate wealth at an astonishing rate. The Byzantines were a gateway to the Middle East and India. They served as a blockade for the Turks and Egypt. The Byzantines were able to do more and be more because they possessed knowledge that most of Europe did not possess. The Byzantines went through many rules, each one better than the previous one. The Byzantines did not allow armies to march on their cities until the sacking of Constantinople. That of the Byzantines is a domination for which it will be remembered
