The Moscow Theater Hostage CrisisOn October 23, 2002, around 9:15 pm, a group of men and women arrived at the Dubrovka Theater in Moscow. These newcomers were extremely well-trained armed fighters who took 979 hostages during the popular musical Nord-Ost. They had the potential to kill everyone and were ready to sacrifice themselves to give Russia and the whole world a message with almost impossible demands. This article will analyze the events that happened from the point of view of negotiations and also the negotiability of the situation. Before drawing hasty conclusions, perhaps it is better to provide information on the incident. Chronology Day 1 On 23 October 2002, a group of armed men and women entered the theater building, shouting slogans and shooting in the air. At first viewers thought it was something that belonged in the musical. It didn't take long for them to realize what was happening. An armed man came on stage, said that their aim was to stop the war in Chechnya by taking people in the theater hostage, and ordered them to call their families and inform them of the hostage situation. The Chechens secured the place with booby traps, snipers, suicide bombers, made sure no one left without their consent. Half an hour later the President of Russia and the Russian authorities were informed. An hour later, Russian troops and police secured the perimeter and began discussing different possible assault tactics. At the same time, without further explanation, citizens of Azerbaijan and Georgia, people with small children, pregnant women and children under the age of twelve were released. The released children were no more than twelve years old because, as reported in the sheet...... half of the document ......ps they remained in Chechnya, so their request was not fulfilled, it was lost. There should be other things that can be listed here from the beginning, it seems to be a zero sum game. Conclusion Russia has failed, perhaps because of its pride, which led to its "no deal" policy with terrorists. The Russians put up barriers, their negotiations were mediocre, they lacked strategy, provocations obviously didn't help. Due to their one-sided thinking they failed to find or attempted to find a peaceful solution. Perhaps they did not negotiate to prevent further terrorist acts and, by refusing to come to terms, showed terrorists that storming a central theater and taking hostages was not enough to solve the problems. The need for security and the feeling of distrust brought out a greater emotion, resentment. Unfortunately, after an incident like this, Putin above all doesn't seem to notice.
