[2492 final]CHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTION1.1. INTRODUCTION We must be aware that all stress is not bad. Selye, a famous psychologist, advocated two categories of stress, namely good or desirable stress (eustress) and bad or undesirable stress (distress). Eustress is pleasant, or at least stimulating, and has always produced maximization of outcome. It is evident that without these positive internal stimuli no one can be effective in their life. Distress is something negative and does not have the ability to monitor or control a stress-filled event in one's life. Here one cannot control oneself and becomes a slave to stress causing anguish and loss to oneself and the organization to which one belongs. A physical or psychological response is mandatory for stress to occur in any living being. (Middleton, 2009). Workplace stress among healthcare workers has been a global problem for years. It can have negative consequences on mental and physical health and can lead to decreased satisfaction with one's job. For a small group of employees this can even lead to burnout and sickness absence. Work stress therefore not only has negative consequences for themselves, but also for the organization in which they work. It is estimated that 10% of the gross national product in European countries is lost due to stress-related absenteeism and turnover. Although absenteeism in healthcare has been declining in recent years, it is still high compared to other stressful work settings such as education, the restaurant industry, or transportation (Roy, 2010). The researcher conducted this study in a private hospital in India named Jubilee Memorial Hospital Thiruvananthapuram. In this study the researcher focused on nurses' work stress. ...... middle of the card ......luded. In this section the researcher will carefully examine the connection between the objectives, the literature reviewed and the findings. Chapter -5: The last section of this research report is the relevant recommendation and conclusion.1.14. CONCLUSIONIn the modern era, nursing is a stressful occupation. This study will critically analyze various sources of nurses' work stress and its negative impact on their profession. It is certain that future interventions to prevent stress in nurses will be offered as a standard part of a benefits package within all healthcare organisations. The researcher is optimistic that the nursing profession will have a lower amount of stress and a well-developed coping mechanism which in turn will increase job satisfaction and higher quality of job performance in nursing..
