Coffee and tea have existed for many centuries. Coffee was discovered in the land of Abyssinia or also known as Ethiopia (Pendergrast, 2001). It became one of many sources for creating ideas, a common drink for work or school, and created problems. It is now common to buy coffee from Starbucks, Philz Coffee or prepare it ourselves. Coffee is used to start the day and keep us awake. Ever since they discovered coffee, Americans have been consuming it every day. On the other hand, not only coffee is a very popular drink, but also tea. The discovery of tea is very diverse, spanning many cultural stories and histories. The story began when the English made tea their representative drink, believing that no one else could have it (Mair & Hoh, 2010). Across culture, the Chinese believed that tea was a necessity for having a healthy life (Mair & Hoh, 2010). During the tea trade, many Chinese claimed that tea can cure any disease and that by drinking it no one can die (Mair & Hoh, 2010). But today many of us drink coffee and tea for countless reasons; we usually eat them in the morning to start the day, to keep us awake for night studies, or for health benefits. One of the main ingredients in coffee and tea is caffeine. Caffeine has both positive and negative benefits, but too much caffeine can cause negative effects on our health. The effects of tea and coffee can have various health benefits, eliminating the chemical compounds present in the drink, but excessive consumption can create side effects on our body. Caffeine is one of the most popular drugs. They are naturally present in all coffee beans and tea plants. Everyone in the world consumes caffeine every day, from coffee to tea. Caffeine can lead to health problems if we consume too much tea and coffee. All in all, coffee and tea have many great benefits but also health concerns. The main key to enjoying coffee and tea is to drink it in moderation. Caffeine is naturally present in all coffees and teas. Many who drink coffee can live longer, while tea can help reduce many health problems such as heart disease, cancer, dizziness, skin problems and inflammation. Everyone should have at least some caffeine in their body because some of us need it.
