Chinweude Okani I identify as a full-blooded Nigerian. Although I was born in the United States, my parents were both born and raised in Nigeria. This diversity in my culture has both advantages and disadvantages. I feel very privileged to live here in the United States. This is especially true due to the divergence in the healthcare system in both countries. Doctors in Nigeria do not have the adequate experience needed to meet the needs of their patients. The tools used are outdated compared to those used in the United States. Medical students and doctors prefer to continue their practice in other countries rather than stay in Nigeria because they do not believe they will be very successful in that country. There is a serious lack of trust in healthcare in that country. I have witnessed firsthand the lack of trust in Nigerian healthcare.
