Diego Rivera: A Famous Muralist and PainterThere were many famous painters and artists who came from Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. In my opinion Diego Rivera was the best artist. He was famous for his murals, cubist themed paintings and much more. Many things influenced Rivera during his time drawing, such as current events and his social life. He went through many difficult things as a child that influenced his life decisions as an adult. Rivera traveled extensively and his life was very interesting. Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez, also known as Diego Rivera, was born on December 8, 1886. Rivera had a twin brother named Carlos María. Rivera, but died two years later. In 1891, Rivera received a sister named María. He started drawing as a child. At the age of two, before Diego could even read, his father opened a studio for him. Around the age of 10, Rivera went to study art at the Academia de San Carlos de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. One of his early influences was the artist José Posada who ran a printing shop near Rivera's school. He was sponsored to continue his studies in Europe by Teodoro A. Dehesa Méndez, governor of the State of Veracruz. Diego's father was at the time an inspector at the National Department of Public Health, a job that took him to many parts of Mexico. In one of his trips to the state of Vera Cruz, Governor Teodoro Dehesa showed some of his son's paintings. The governor was very impressed and when he met Diego he offered him a scholarship to study in Europe. With the help of José Orozco and David Siqueiros, Rivera created the Union of Technical Workers, Painters and Sculptors. Rivera and his assistants painted 235 individual fresco panels covering 15,000 square meters. These panels displayed his cultural, historical, and popular political views on Mexico. Rivera led a fantastic life. He contributed to many famous groups of artists and worked with other famous artists of his time. By 1955 Rivera's health was deteriorating. He had traveled abroad for cancer treatment, but doctors had failed to cure him. Diego Rivera died of cardiac arrest on November 24, 1957 in Mexico City, Mexico. Rivera was an influential leader and artist of his time, who will continue to leave a lasting legacy.
