Topic > Summary of Don Quixote - 1171

Originally named Alonso Quixano, Don Quixote is a man dissatisfied with his boring lifestyle. He expresses his imagination based on the books he reads about chivalrous knights and bloody battles. It is clear that Don Quixote suffers from some mental health problems because he finds it difficult to distinguish his imagination from reality. Don Quixote can also be considered dangerous and a threat to his community for many reasons. Reporting one's delusions near death does not justify his actions and behavior, so it is not a good thing. First, it was established that Don Quixote suffers from serious mental problems due to the fact that he expresses his imagination on books about chivalrous knights. In Quixote's time, knights did not exist and therefore had no place in society. Don embarks on a journey that only he can see. Don Quixote's armor was made of old metal that was moldering. His helmet was made of cardboard and his horse was in very poor condition. In Don's mind, everything he had was in the best possible condition as he even invented great names for himself and his horse. This is enough evidence to show that Quixote is not in his right state of mind. In an inn, in which he considers a castle, he considers the prostitutes as beautiful damsels and a peasant woman as a noblewoman, to whom he gives the name “Dulcinea Del Toboso”. Even those around him play along with his senseless game, which leads me to think that he is not that crazy, but to a certain extent. Instead of providing him with the help he truly needs, others in the community have chosen to add to the story by making him even crazier than before. Instead of telling him the truth about what had happened to his books, Quixote's niece decided to tell him that her bank...... half of paper ......tion but not to marry a man who knows something of cavalry. Even though his actions weren't justifiable other than him being crazy, it's nice that he was more honest and open with himself before his disappearance. In conclusion, we can therefore say that the books on chivalry drove Don Quixote to madness, along with the people in his community. If they had been a little more honest with him and provided him with the proper treatment he needs, some of Don's fights could have been avoided. We can also conclude that Don Quixote is only crazy up to a certain point. He is able to reconnect with reality once again and admit what the books of chivalry pushed him to do. Although he cannot be considered a heroic figure, he made his life more interesting than those around him, who were simply amused by his actions and played with him..
