The learning experience influences teachers and students as each is transformed and influenced by each other. Positive learning experiences affirm the career choices of both the teacher and the students, while a negative experience detracts from the career choices of both the teacher and the student, which can ultimately lead to abandonment of the profession. Positive engagement creates a transformative learning experience, preparing students for their future work. For Palmer (1998), good teaching cannot be reduced to technique. Good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher. Palmer (1998) defined identity as an evolving nexus in which all the forces that constitute one's life converge in the mystery of the self (p.13) and integrity as the totality within the nexus while its vectors they form and reform the pattern of their lives
