I like the line from the Declaration of Independence: "All men are created equal." I try to live by this ideal. I am of two races, black and white, and I consider myself the same as anyone. My parents taught me to accept all people. My mother used to say, “Treat others as you would like them to treat you.” I think I do a good job following this and have always believed that if I was compassionate towards others I could expect the same in return. My father always told me that if I respected people they would respect me, but I realized that this is not always true. I often went to a particular restaurant with my mother, who is white. 95% of the customers and all of the restaurant's employees are white, so I think it's fair to say it's a white restaurant. I couldn't wait to go because every Friday there is a fried fish night and I love fried fish. I remember the smell of fish, the live music and the hum of arcade games in the background.
