In 1821, Mexico regained its independence from Spain, but that was not the end of their struggle. Many countries continued to struggle after going to war, win or lose, and Mexico was no different. The recovery has been challenging, they face many political challenges and have struggled to secure an adequate leader. It was also difficult for them to populate and protect the borders of the northern area they acquired when they gained independence. Populating these areas was made even more difficult by the constant conflict and fighting they engaged in with the Native Americans. Not only that, but the central government and the poorer border communities clashed over their ideals and struggled to communicate and work.
