Long. Long was governor of Louisiana and had a different vision for how to reform the Great Depression. He called it the “Share Our Wealth” program. The main points of the program are these: each family will have a house and the comforts provided in it for a value of 5,000 dollars or slightly more but not less, no family will be able to have assets of no less than 5,000 dollars and no more than 5 million dollars, family income cannot be less than $2,000 or more than $1 million, seniors can retire at 65 and receive a pension and, finally, that no young person should have their families pay for college . This program appealed to a good number of people, particularly the lower classes, because it made everyone fairly equal to each other. Many people, however, disagreed with Long's program because of how much it favored socialism. Socialism is a classless society where everyone works and receives the same benefits. Furthermore, there is no private property in a socialist society. Socialism helps to get rid of competition to make all citizens equal. Everyone receives the same salary, medical care and more
