If there are over two million LGB (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people willing to adopt a child, why not give them a permanent home ? In the United States, there are over 65,000 adopted children and 14,000 foster children who are raised in families headed by non-heterosexual individuals or couples (Evan B. 2011). Allowing same-sex couples to adopt has been a big issue across the United States in recent years, so much so that some states have even banned them from adopting. Many lesbian and gay couples have been denied adoption applications due to agencies having negative views towards the couple due to religion or other beliefs. Everyone, regardless of who they are, has “equal rights” and these rights are disregarded every day when it comes to homosexuals who adopt or even think about becoming parents themselves. Although it is said that children need both a male and a female parent to develop psychologically properly, homosexual couples should have the ability to adopt because they are equally capable of raising a child as a heterosexual couple. People say that a child needs both parents and a female figure in their life to develop psychologically properly but;Scientific studies have shown that children who grow up in gay or lesbian families with one or two parents fare better emotionally and socially just as well as children whose parents are heterosexual. Studies have shown that children are more influenced by interactions with their parents than by their sexual orientation.
