After combat experiences engaged in both the Battles of Molino del Ray and Chapultepec, both of which ended in significant triumphs attributed to America; Ulysses S. Grant spent time in meaningful reflection evaluating the experiences in which he ascertained these two distinct conflicts and his holistic experiences of the Mexican War. The final experiences Grant learned were that these two war conflicts should never have been engaged by American forces and could have been sustained using an alternative battle strategy in which the Mexican soldiers would have been outflanked, an approach that would have forced them to abandon their their military positions ending in a more peaceful American victory. The end result of the learning Grant gained from these overall experiences is that there is a key lesson gained from quality reflective study (Kaltman, 1998). This ability to function as a thoughtful professional is what allowed Ulysses S. Grant to successfully serve in leadership opportunities such as the United States Army and later as President of the United States of America. It is when the individual learns the discipline of reflection and even more applies this practice of reflection to their life that they truly begin to mature and develop on both a personal and professional level. This proposal is designed to address the need for professional development that can be used to help teachers within our institution mature and grow educationally to become better instructors for the academic education of our students and assist them in achieving their academic goals and objectives.
