Summary: "Think and Grow Rich", by Napoleon Hill In the book "Think and Grow Rich", the author, Napoleon Hill, provides a set of principles which he calls the key to financial success. The idea behind these principles is that a person becomes what he often thinks about, in this case success (i.e. rich). Hill lays out a method he created for translating one's thoughts into reality, creating an insatiable hunger and drive within an individual to succeed. Using the examples of his son and some of America's legendary and iconic business leaders, whom Hill has studied and interviewed, including Edwin C. Barnes, he demonstrates that anything you think of can be produced and conceived. “…[All] who have amassed large fortunes have done a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, wishing and planning before acquiring the money” (p.26). Every success starts with a goal and the first step towards achieving your goal is to have a burning desire. The characteristic of a burning desire is that it is defined and that one thinks and dreams about it, thus eventually becoming a positive and healthy life-consuming obsession necessary for motivation. Definitive, meaning that a person has a specific goal in mind while putting all his energy towards it and does not give up until it is achieved. One of the main pitfalls is that most people see “getting rich” only as a hope or desire. When an obstacle presents itself, instead of making an effort to overcome it, people give up and choose the easy way out. People fail to realize that success comes as a result of overcoming some crises through perseverance. Any idea can become reality if you truly believe in it. Take Edwin C. Barnes for example. Barnes had a burning drawing... middle of paper... to make. Trust and desire are the two main feelings that initiate sexual desire and action and can be applied to other areas of life. Whatever one continually thinks tends to happen, hence the title “Think and Grow Rich.” Using examples of past successes, such as that of his son and Edwin C. Barnes, Hill shows how a burning desire, persistence, and other principles, when implemented effectively, can be combined to create conditions conducive to success. This book is written to guide anyone, in any profession, in their daily activities, because new inspiration can always be found. Hill emphasizes the principles, the methods that deal with the mind because it is a powerful weapon. This book was written during the Great Depression era and could still be used for modern situations because the techniques, teachings and instructions do not age.
