Many Americans have many questions about the new Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Most people don't even know what ObamaCare is or what it does. This is expected. With healthcare reforms covering nearly every topic related to health insurance, it's nearly impossible for anyone to know everything about it. Americans should be informed about this topic which affects almost the entire health insurance system. The United States has changed under President Obama. It has changed many things in the United States, including the healthcare system. Many people wonder whether this is for better or for worse. The idea of ObamaCare is decades old. The first idea came from the Heritage Foundation in 1989. Most people believe that ObamaCare is a liberal idea, although it includes both conservative and liberal ideas. The only reason it's called “ObamaCare” is because President Obama signed it into effect. ObamaCare was signed into law on March 23, 2010. It was then signed into law by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012. ObamaCare is “…over a thousand pages of reforms to the insurance and healthcare industries to combat rising costs and to provide affordable health insurance to more Americans.” There were approximately forty-four million (sixteen percent of the population) uninsured Americans before ObamaCare took effect. These people could not afford health insurance. ObamaCare now provides low-cost insurance to people earning less than 400% less than the Federal Poverty Line (ObamaCare), which amounts to $10,830 for an individual and $22,050 for a family of four (Dummies). ObamaCare is vital for people who can't afford insurance (Politico).
