According to David Croteau, social class is "a group of people who share a more or less similar economic position and lifestyle", a large group of people who rank closely with each other in terms of property (wealth), power and prestige according to Weber. Systems of stratification “consist of social structures and cultural norms that create and maintain inequality by classifying people into a hierarchy of groups who receive unequal resources.” With these two terms we used these terms and Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl's social class scale model to identify our family position using Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl's model. According to Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl they used education, occupation and income to determine a social class. Using their model to determine where my family and I are on the scale based on education, occupation, and income, I would say that my family will be working class because my mother and father never finished high school nor did they go to college. My parents immigrated to the United States legally since the Secret War, and coming to a country where they can't speak the language or adapt to the culture was really difficult for them. My mother wanted to continue her studies, but my father and his parents forced her to work instead of getting an education. Due to the lack of a good education, she was unable to get a good job that could help support her family. But once my father and mother started working we lived a really good life with no difficulty in moving into the lower middle class, but once they divorced, my mother was the only one to take care of us eight children, which was really difficult for her, abandoning us to the underclass (lower class). My mother was unemployed for a while until she finally found another job to support us....... middle of paper... or be able to afford it. Thus, people who have fewer socioeconomic resources are less likely to engage in ACP to have a better quality of death. People with better socioeconomic status are more likely to be able to plan for their ACP than people with lower socioeconomic status who are unable to plan for their ACP. What is related to my social mobility is that I might be able to start my own ACP because of my socioeconomic of having a college degree and having a well paying job, since if I had a low socioeconomic level I would have difficulty or not even bother to do my ACP to help me with my care when I get older. So it all plays a role in your socioeconomic status and by having a good education and a well paying job, you are more likely to have a better health life than the poorer person who is struggling trying to make money and has poor health.
