There were those who were in favor of the federalist system, while others were anti-federalists. Federalists were those who supported the idea that the states and the national government shared the power to govern, anti-federalists were those who were against the Constitution, because the Constitution was based on federalism. James Madison and Patrick Henry were among the fifty-five men who attended the meeting in Philadelphia, in 1787. Patrick Henry, was an Anti-Federalist. The Anti-Federalists feared that if the national government gained too much power, it would become a threat to the people, as the British parliament was. Patrick Henry's family was not as wealthy as the families of other founding fathers. Patrick Henry received an ordinary, but spends most of his time in the woods, learning basic survival techniques (p. 69). He also gave the very famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech in 1775 (p. 69). Most Anti-Federalists were loyal to the state and not the national government.
