Topic > A Comparison of Life in Arabia by James Joyce

Although most people don't want to admit the sad fact that money correlates with happiness most of the time, Joyce just throws the statement out there out. “I dropped the two pence against the six pence in my pocket. I heard a voice call from one end of the tunnel that the light was out. The upper part of the room was now completely dark. Looking up into the darkness I saw myself as a creature driven and mocked by vanity; and my eyes burned with anguish and anger.” (Page 1241 paragraphs 3 and 4). Explain how frustrated and sad the boy was because he didn't have enough money to buy everything he wanted to buy, which in turn affected his whole life.
