«Everyone has their own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete task that requires completion. In it he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, so everyone's task is as unique as his specific opportunity." -Viktor FranklDone because I was told to do it, I think not. All tasks are performed by people like me who care about where they will be in ten, twenty, even thirty years. Assignments are designed to deepen knowledge on a specific topic and this pushes me to do better. This assignment is done for three reasons: passing the course and then I will graduate, when a job comes I will be prepared to write and so I will be able to write and speak better. First, and most importantly, I am taking this course so that I will eventually be able to graduate with the degree of my choice. You see, if I get a good grade in this, I will have a good grade in class, which means I will be more likely to graduate. I am required to take 8-11 hours of college writing for an engineering degree, which I will eventually end up at Walla Walla College. This essay was made because when I look at the alternative, taking over the family business (carpentry), I don't like it. Therefore I must complete this task, along with many others, to complete my degree. Second, when the time comes to get a job I will have the knowledge necessary to complete the required writing tasks. As an engineer I will need to know how to write for many aspects of the job, such as writing a memo or writing a manuscript. I will have to showcase my skills on my resume in order to apply for the job. Furthermore, I will be able to write my presentation before delivering it to the office. Hiring people can tell how educated the potential employee is by the way he or she speaks and writes. Finally, I will write and speak as if I am educated. I think educated people talk differently, this assignment actually serves a dual purpose, it gets me a grade in class (whether it's good or bad) and it helps me write better. I'd love to be the kind of person who can write an essay like this in under half an hour, but for now I'll spend hours thinking about what to write.
