My educational and personal background can be summarized by a famous poem by Robert Frost entitled The Road Not Taken. I began my undergraduate career at the University of South Florida majoring in biomedical sciences with aspirations of becoming a doctor. During my freshman year of college, as I began to familiarize myself with college life, my mother's nail salon business began experiencing financial difficulties that required me to find a full-time job. I tried to balance the workload between school and work, being a full-time student during the day and working the night shift at local gas stations. Although I did my best to manage both my academic and financial obligations, I knew it wasn't sustainable and took a break from school knowing it would only hurt me academically. Several years later, I got married and managed to get a decent job at International Labs, a pharmaceutical company, and work my way up the corporate ladder. I embraced the new pharmaceutical environment I found myself in, but I knew I needed to continue my education if I wanted to advance my career. I once again committed to attending school and now, with the support of my wife, I was able to finish my degree in 2014. Although it took me much longer than expected to complete my undergraduate studies, I consider it a of my greatest successes that I have been able to overcome and I have dedicated much of my life for this. I had never heard or known anything about South University until I was informed by my wife while she was trying to get accepted into the professional nursing program on the Tampa campus. My first impression of South University was very shocking to me because I was unaware of the flexible class schedule offered by the school and their willingness to accept me given my low GPA. With the help of my academic advisor and admissions, I was able to enroll in the MBA program in January 2017. I decided to take the accelerated route because I knew I was behind the curve due to my lengthy degree. Even though I was initially advised not to take the fast track, I knew deep down that I could do it and I needed to prove it to myself. If I could take anything away from my imperfect college experience, it would be that it doesn't matter how smart or good a person is, it only matters how bad they want to achieve it. The knowledge I received in my MBA program at South University allowed me to learn some of the most innovative and fundamental aspects of any business such as creating a business model, selecting the appropriate business organization, managing financial data , marketing products, and understanding why some businesses fail.
