The Dragon Born by Ela Lourenco is the first book in a series of five books about a young but strong female protagonist named Larissa but popularly called Lara. The first part of the novel introduces the reader to what it means to live in the world called Azmantium. It is a planet where many people live, but these people are all magical beings. Everything on this planet runs on magic and everyone was born with magic and powers, even if some were more powerful than others. And of course, as on earth, there was a constant struggle between good and evil. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? The prophecy said that he will emerge with great strength and power and learn good to overcome evil. She was a dragonborn and the last of her kind. Lara did not know her true nature because her identity was hidden since birth. The council of some witches, wizards, goblins, etc., who were on the right track, thought it wise to protect Lara until she was of age and could have full control over her own powers and magic. Just as a tradition in Azmantium, every child twelve years old and up was sent to the Lantis school of magic. In this school, kids are tested to know what kind of magical powers they have and based on the test results they are divided and assigned to different classes. While at school, Lara befriended Leyla, Sofia, and Anna and these three characters played a significant role in Lara's life, they also possessed strong magic, except Lara possessed stronger and more powerful magic than them. I believe that in subsequent series the author will bring to the fore their main role in ensuring the success of Lara's predestined mission. I must confess that the novel had a wonderful plot and I enjoyed every part of the stories. The part I appreciate most about this novel is the one where the author introduced a bit of romance. Xan, the third son of King Merrick, the king of Azmantium, fell in love with Lara after his first meeting with Jayla, a bossy girl who was so proud and arrogant. Although Xan's family was already considered one of the evils of the planet as both King Merrick and Xan's two older brothers were evil and power-crazed, Xan seemed to be the complete opposite of what his brothers were. Xan was kind, friendly but not power mad. I really enjoyed every scene where both of them were together both in class and outside of class and I expect to see more adorable scenes showing their romance in other series. I also liked how the author strongly developed each character, especially that of the main character, Lara. The author presented it in such a way that it seemed so real to me. There were also characters who, in my opinion, I would say livened up the novel with their lovable roles. Characters like Talia and Yelena. Talia was a six-year-old girl and a resident of the Lantis Orphan Home. Talia was a lively, happy, friendly little girl, and she loved Lara so much that she became sad whenever Lara was about to leave for Magic School. Yelena was their adoptive mother and took care of the orphans at the Lantis home and treated the girls as if they were her biological daughters and of course, the children loved her back. It's a blend of action, mystery and fantasy. Some characters were also lost.
