Every man's life is a fairy tale written by the finger of God (Anderson). Competing on the track and being successful is my fairy tale come true. Working hard to reduce track time has changed my life for the better. I look at my goals on the track, to be the best in the region and state, as if they were just seconds within my reach. Get Original Essay The spring of 2000 was my first high school running season, starting at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning with the team warm-up run and it gets longer. Both Coach Owens and Coach Summerville were amazed at my speed, wondering why I didn't run my freshman year. The workouts continued, with our first track meet just around the corner I pushed hard to reach the speed the coaches felt I had in me. My coaches knew I was fast in the 200 meters, with times averaging 26.16 seconds. It was fine, but they said I could be better. They were right! My times improved, and at the State Track meet I ran the third leg of the 800 sprint medley, running my 200 meters well under the 26.16 seconds I had averaged earlier in the season. I helped our relay team earn the state title of being fourth in the entire state. As my sophomore year quickly came to a close, my coaches confronted me about the 400-meter run. They saw more potential than I did. I was afraid, afraid of duration, of competition and above all of the idea of failing. Even though the coaches knew my fear, they still encouraged me to run the 400. I reflected on how true their previous belief in me was, so I looked deeper within myself and said okay. We were up and running when training began at the beginning of my senior year. The workouts became longer and more difficult. The coaches' belief proved true; I had stronger abilities. Thanks to their encouragement I learned a great lesson; If you draw from deep within yourself, you can succeed. Someone once said that failure teaches success (author unknown). However, my mother's saying that you can overcome the fear of failure and achieve success by trusting in God more accurately reflects my success. With the finger of God writing my life, anything is possible. My success on the track makes me grateful for the amazing coaches God has used to push me forward, past my fears. The reward for overcoming my fears with their encouragement came at the regional track meet when I came first in the 400 meter race. An expression of joy ran through me! My self-confidence was reawakened when I earned the title of 4A Regional Champion in the 400-meter dash. Soon it would be time to prove that I was better than most of the girls outside my region. With the state competition coming up, it was time to prove that hard work pays off. I not only competed in the 400 meters, but also in the 800 medley sprint and the 4x1 relay. Once the preliminaries for our mixed and 4x1 relays were completed, unfortunately we were unable to qualify for the final. Ashley Owens and I were the only two sprinters left to demonstrate the quality of the girls track program at Liberty High School. Ashley, a freshman, competed and placed first in the 100- and 200-meter dash; leaving me to earn the 400m title. When the 400 meter race started I was focused but at the same time 400.
