Topic > Information Technology: Challenges in the Career Development Process

My dream job in the information technology (IT) field is to become a software engineer who designs and develops software. I personally like it because it has been my long-time dream since I was young, and I know I will have learned more in school. My design and development work as a software engineer includes the development of computer games, operating systems, middleware, network control systems, and enterprise applications. I will apply the theories and principles of computer science and mathematical analysis in order to test, create, develop, and evaluate all software applications and systems that allow computers to function or operate effectively and efficiently (Burgess, 2002). Other tasks I will carry out include: reflecting changes in technological progress, changing employer practices especially in new areas of specialisation. It also involves maintaining and planning for future growth of computers, building and coordinating computer systems in organizations so that the organization can easily carry out its core functions and operations. My work will also involve providing ongoing technical support to purchasers and customers of computer software (Burgess, 2002). My strengths are that I am faster in learning anything new in information technology, especially about computer software and hardware which I specialize in. This made me more interested in computer software engineering. I am also creative and innovative in this field and can face challenges and be able to do something meaningful in my workplace. My other strong point is my academic and professional qualification in the IT field. I fully understand what is happening in this field of computing (Burgess, 2002). Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? Receive an original essay I also receive current design updates from computer software engineers and can advise an organization on the best technology to adopt. My other strength is that I can handle both the software and hardware of a computer; therefore a further advantage for an organization as it will not be necessary to employ two specialists to carry out the two different jobs. I am sociable and extroverted; therefore communicating and expressing myself to clients and anyone who needs my help will not be a problem or challenge (Burgess, 2002). The job I wouldn't do is IT and engineering consultancy. This is because I like being in the field doing the practical part of it. This will allow me to gain experience and be competent in the sector. Being a consultant is theoretical in nature, but I like the practice; look after computers and secure them in their right locations and ensure they are operational (Burgess, 2002). I consider this job to be the worst because as I stated before, I am innovative and creative, this job will therefore limit my innovative ability and creativity because I cannot explore the IT field thoroughly. This means that I will not have the opportunity to gain experience and apply the theory I learned in class (Burgess, 2002). In computer science, there are many challenges that I will face throughout my career. Information technology is one of the rapidly evolving fields compared to other disciplines. Technology keeps changing (dynamically) from time to time; so it is a challenge for me because I will always have to be attentive and curious to know and adopt what is new on the market. This will ensure I stay relevant in the market full of competitors. This means I will have to support, 2002).
