IntroductionThe main purpose of this assessment is to provide a clear view of structured reflection using a reflective model based on the results obtained from the Kouzes and Posner Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI ) ). To clarify my vision of the result obtained, I used Borton's reflective model. Based on this model, I have developed two action plans for effective nursing leadership. Borton's Reflective Model Descriptive level of reflection (what...): It was Tuesday, July 31, 2018, the first Effective Leadership in Health seminar and second course I was taking at my college. I was still a little nervous because everything was new to me and I was struggling to adapt to the new environment and face new challenges. The session started with an introduction followed by some individual and group activities in order to improve our knowledge of leadership which helped us express our opinions and interact with other class members. After completing this portion, our instructor began teaching us about leadership challenges related to the Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI). He handed over two documents that must be filled out individually. One document consists of 30 behaviors in total that need to be rated based on individual preferences using a rating scale of 1 to 10, while the other was a self-response sheet where ratings were transferred to fill in the blanks . We were advised to complete both pages provided, so we did as per the directions provided. Finally the result arrived and it was a little unexpected. I scored highest in empowering others to act and modeling the way that was then followed by encouraging the heart, inspiring a shared vision, and scored lowest in challenging the process. Applying theory and knowledge to reflection (So what...): From the LPI self-response assessment, I got a clear vision of effective leadership since every 30 behaviors address the qualities that a leader must have in himself. I also had a chance to evaluate my behavior and a way to improve my weakness. Since every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses, I have them too. I scored highest on enabling others to act, which explains the cooperative relationship between leader and follower. A leader is always responsible for the development of his followers as he/she is the one who leads all the staff along with him/her. The main quality that a leader must possess is to identify the uniqueness, beliefs and values of each follower and maintain a harmonious and cooperative relationship between all followers despite having different thoughts (Losefsky & Mulcahy 2016). As a nurse, I am aware that good support for team members can encourage team spirit of collaboration and cooperation. Since the working environment also plays a very important role, it must be maintained in such a way that every worker can give his/her best (Martin et al.2012). As a team leader, I always help my followers improve their careers by supporting them and providing a supportive environment where they can showcase their potential. This way I got the second highest score in the model. Emphasize values clarification and Encourage Heart involves supporting team members by recognizing team members' efforts through rewards and feedback. A good one.
