Have you ever entered a building with a sign labeled gun-free zone? What do you think a thief sees when he comes in to rob that area without weapons? The overall safety of the US population is limited by gun control, even our president is protected by guns. If we were to seize all legal weapons, what would happen to all illegal and off-market weapons? The United States has begun to notice that no matter what it tries to limit gun control and gun rights, terrible things will happen. In gun-free zones, there has been a spike in terrorism and attacks. Whether or not the United States needs more gun control is a popular topic. Say no to plagiarism. The United States has approximately 8.8 firearms per 100 people, approximately 270 million firearms, and only 22% of Americans own firearms. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states: “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment clearly states that the people should be armed for our protection. We, as the people of the United States, have the right to arm ourselves and not have our weapons taken away. Yet the government feels the need to pass more gun laws that limit us on the Second Amendment. Additional gun laws violate our right to keep our weapons untouched while on duty. Banning assault rifles did not show a significant difference in gun crimes. A December 10, 2014 Pew poll found that 57 percent of people believe that owning a gun protects them from being victimized. Banning guns will only provide criminals with easy targets since they don't have to worry about other legal gun owners carrying guns due to gun carrying restrictions. States with the greatest increases in legal gun ownership show declines in robberies and violence. So if we outlaw gun ownership, the outlaws will end up illegally owning all the guns, giving them the edge over the rest of the competition. Gun ownership doubled in the 20th century, and the number of gun-related crimes declined. According to the National Rifle Association, firearms are used for self-defense 2.5 million times per year. The police cannot always protect everyone. The average response time for a 911 call is 22 minutes for non-emergency calls and 9 minutes for emergency calls. In the time you have, things can quickly escalate and people can be shot or injured, or a robbery could turn into a hostage situation. Now, if a person has a concealed carry permit they can stop the situation immediately, so injury and death can be avoided. What happens if the criminal takes away your phones and you cut off contact with the outside world? Then a hidden permit can come in handy. A person with a hidden permit could assess the situation, react, and perhaps save someone's life. There are over 13.7 million hunters in the United States sixteen years of age or older, and they spend $7.7 billion on guns, scopes, ammunition, and other various necessary equipment. In most cases, assault rifles are said to be no more powerful than a regular oneshotgun. Lawmakers labeled these weapons “assault” to scare people away from purchasing them. This was also their tactic to stop the sale of these weapons. The government has already banned fully automatic assault rifles, but semi-automatic rifles fire just as easily as a hunting rifle. Sport shooting is a large industry and competitors spend an average of about $1,580.83 per gun. What would happen if the government became so strict with gun control laws that it forced us to give up virtually all of our guns? That would create tyranny, and on December 10, 1791, that's why we passed the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights included the Second Amendment because the United States was tired of falling under the tyranny of King George. Banning firearms and enacting gun laws would not prevent crimes and mass shootings. Of the 62 mass shootings that occurred in the United States between 1982 and 2012, 49 used legally obtained weapons. Most gunmen will do whatever it takes to obtain a gun, even if it means it is obtained illegally. Gun laws take guns away from citizens who obey the law, while criminals would continue to ignore them. Criminals are desperate enough to steal guns from family and friends, which further demonstrates how deceitful they can be. Many Americans fear that the government will have too much power if it decides to enact gun control laws. They also fear that the government might take away all guns from citizens. Americans opposed to gun control argue that the Second Amendment guarantees citizens the right to bear arms. If they passed gun laws, the government would be violating the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is in the Constitution to protect us from a tyrannical, cruel, and oppressive government. Many angry Americans would protest and many riots would break out if they lost the right to bear arms. Owning a gun provides a sense of security that many Americans would not want to lose. If gun control laws were enacted, many Americans would have to undergo a background check and perhaps even microstamping. If people needed a background check, a government database containing all their personal information would be needed. Personal information would include name, address, mental health history and criminal record. Microstamping is the use of a laser to etch marks into the firing pin and face of a firearm. So, if that cartridge is spent, the microprint on the cartridge will provide information about the firearm. Americans feel that microprinting and background checks are an invasion of their privacy and fear that the government will use the database and their information for something it is not intended for. A very popular belief among those against gun control laws is that we don't need gun control, people need gun education. To prevent accidental shootings, people need to be educated about gun safety and how to use guns. Americans who oppose gun control laws say that guns don't kill people, people kill people. They also believe there should be increased mental illness screening to reduce the amount of mass murder. 95% of US gun owners believe children should learn about gun safety. In homes where children are introduced to guns and taught gun use, do not associate them with violence. Instead they associate guns with freedom, safety, security and recreation. People are not?
