After 11th grade, I wanted to become a construction manager mainly because I wanted the heavy responsibility of being able to supervise and manage construction sites. My interest in pursuing a career in construction management initially arose from work experience I had at a local construction management company; I had the opportunity to witness and grasp the essential qualities that were required of me to be able to do the job well. Even though I lacked some of the necessary qualities, this made me even more intrigued and determined to set out in search of those qualities that I unfortunately lacked to become a successful construction manager. The more I constantly inform myself about construction management, the more confident I become that a leading career as a construction manager is right for me. Say no to plagiarism. Get an Original Essay Not long ago, while I was doing research for an economics assignment, I discovered that twenty percent of American workplace fatalities occur in the construction industry. I found this statistic unappealing like most, but I believe it is one of the things that had a big influence on my decision to pursue construction management; in order to prevent future events like these from happening. During a period of research, I learned that budget and leadership skills are of the utmost importance in becoming a successful construction manager. It is in my interest to influence how the construction industry operates. After deciding to become a construction manager, I was determined to find the qualities necessary for success. In the meantime I read books by Paul Netscher, Gang Chen, Nick Ganaway and many others. Of all the great managers I have known, the one who inspires me the most is Gang Chen. This is because, unlike most construction managers, he had the essential qualities of a construction manager and was also a brilliant businessman. I believe that success as a project manager in the construction industry, especially nowadays, requires technical expertise and a combination of management, leadership, communication and business skills. Leadership is something I have learned to master on my own and my school has recognized this by making me captain of the volleyball team, which I believe has further improved my leadership and communication skills. Additionally, I created an SAT club at my school where seniors who excel in math help each other learn and exceed their study skills by asking each other questions they may have. This has improved my communication and leadership skills tremendously. Reading the book Managing Successful Construction Projects by Paul Netscher taught me how important it is to have business and financial skills. To improve these skills, I volunteered at a construction site management company as a one-week experience. This experience proved to be very formative, especially due to the imperative fact that my work experience was directly related to the course I wanted to study. Whenever I have time on my hands outside of my school club and academic activities, I become very passionate about sports. My favorite sports or activities are volleyball, football and chess. As of now I am planning to start a volleyball team outside of school, to improve overall general fitness. Please note: this is just an example. Get a custom paper from our expert writers now.
