Winter Break As a college student, winter break is the longest time I will be away from school, except for the summer. About a month away from school is not something I intend to take for granted, as time is precious. There are endless possibilities for how I can spend my time and I want to accomplish as much as possible. While my plans aren't set in stone, there are some things I will definitely do. Relaxation will also come into play, especially since I will have the opportunity to see people I don't get the chance to see regularly. The hours I work will go towards covering my scholarship requirements, as well as helping me complete my four hundred and fifty hour tenure with Americorps. My service at school will put me in a position to help at a stressful time, as it is the holiday season. I will act as a sort of TA in that I will be available to assist teachers with anything they need to complete over the holiday season. I will also have the opportunity to help students by assisting them with their work and talking to them about going to college. The best thing about spending breaks at school is that I will be able to learn. We learn from experience and I'm excited to get out there and do everything I can. Since experience is what I'm looking for, volunteering can't be the only thing I do during the holidays. I also plan to spend some time relaxing and doing things that don't produce emotional tension. Spending time with my friends is one of the most relaxing things I can do during break. Being around people who don't make me feel like I have to act like someone I'm not is the perfect way to take my mind off school. My friends and I like to go to the park and slackline, I plan to do it every day. Being alone is also an important aspect of relaxation. During the break, I will probably find some time to sit and read a book. Reading allows you to escape from stressful reality into the exciting world of an author. Even though I would like to spend much of my free time living in the moment, without schedules, I will still need to think about the future. I have a difficult semester ahead of me and it would be wise for me to prepare a little. Next semester I will be taking twenty credit hours because I recently got accepted to the Honors College, which also means I will be moving into the Jarvis house as soon as I get back. Not to mention I'll still have to do ten hours a week of community service and play tennis with the tennis team. During this break I will also need to take some time to organize my things for next semester. I would have to make arrangements to get my books and make a plan for the first two weeks.
