Topic > The Improper Use of Torture in Surrender - 1264

What if someone you love simply disappears? The United States used the same idea to install a program known as extraordinary rendition. It was implemented during the Clinton administration, but was publicly acknowledged after 9/11. In the context of the film Rendition, rendition refers to the transfer of terrorist suspects outside the United States to a foreign country, where harsh interrogations and torture take place. Although Rendition was installed to protect the United States from terrorist attacks, Anwar El-Ibrahimi's surrender represents the government's misuse of the program. In the film Rendition, a terrorist attack occurs in a foreign country and an American envoy is killed. An investigation is then launched which leads to an Egyptian who has lived in the United States for many years and who is married to a US citizen. This man, Anwar El-Ibrahimi, was later arrested while returning home from a business meeting in Egypt. Since Anwar El-Ibrahimi is now a suspected terrorist and appears to have disappeared on his flight back to the United States, his wife Isabella El-Ibrahimi and a CIA analyst are trying to figure out his whereabouts. The US government wants to find the mastermind who committed such terrorist attacks so that it can prevent future attempts like these. In the film, Alan Smith, a CIA analyst, confronts Corrine Williams, head of the CIA's Operation Rendition, about human rights and she responds: “Honey, this is bad business. There are more than 7,000 people alive in central London tonight, thanks to the information we've gathered in just this way. So maybe you put your head on the pillow and feel proud that you saved one man while 7,000 die, but I have nephews in London... middle of paper... by. The fact that Anwar El-Ibrahimi is kidnapped for reasons not justified by the case is beyond the pale. The film Rendition exemplifies the misuse of torture as a way to show us the difference between right and wrong. Even if someone appears to be a terrorist, the US government cannot kidnap them based on that assumption alone. You have to look at the background and analyze their entire life. Torture and rendition is a very sensitive and extremely controversial issue, but we need to take a step back and realize what is stopping the government from torturing itself.
