Topic > The Achievement Habit: The Achievement Habit By Bernard...

The Oxford definition is “the result of cognitive dissonance, which leads people to seek information consistent with their beliefs and to avoid challenging information” (D'Alessio and Allen ). Roth talks about it, but in his own way. It says we are actively dishonest about our motives and our behavior. He uses the example of the Japanese man who wants to spend more time with his family but works late. He doesn't need to work late, he wastes time in his office and wants to show that he has to do a lot of work. He is choosing to only see his side of the story and not think about all the other factors. He is explaining that people are selfish and will only think of themselves before thinking of others. Society will only see what it wants to see. Even though Roth has discussed in depth why the reasons are bullshit, he doesn't think about the other side of the coin.
