Symbolic interaction is a personal level between individuals. Focusing on one individual could be the start of change for an entire community. The individual relationships that form between people can help shape the way society works. If one worked individually with African American students who are disproportionately punished, their attitudes might change. It is simpler because assuming the same situation for each individual may not be more effective than realizing where they reside, who they hang out with, and the community they interact with. Students are already seen as criminals, so they should have an individual reaction with counselors or parents to change the label given to them
