Being a pharmacist means entering a diverse but extremely rewarding field of work. Pharmacists are heavily involved in the preparation and dispensing of medications. However, some pharmacists are involved in actual research and development for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Pharmacists fall into the health sciences career cluster. As of now, the demand for pharmacists is increasing at a steady rate due to the rapid expansion of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors (Job Outlook for Pharmacists). Pharmacists are generally stationed in one location for the duration of their work. Unless, of course, a pharmacist leaves to study more about efficient ways of working, information about new drugs, etc. Pharmacists work year-round doing pretty much the same thing they started doing. Give or take some new or old medications that are introduced, no significant amount of changes occur in this occupation regarding time, such as rush hours. However, it could be argued that in some seasons there is a greater demand for prescription drugs because it could be a “sick season”. Therefore, this would cause a “peak” period. Most pharmacists generally work 40 hours per week. As with all professions, however, there are pharmacists, around 12%, who work more than 50 hours a week (Pharmacists - What they do). Being a pharmacist requires a fair amount of well-tuned motor skills. This is simply because a pharmacist with trembling hands may prescribe too much to someone because perhaps he gives more than the expected amount. The starting salary for a pharmacist is between $81,000 and $113,000 per year (Job Outlook for Pharmacists). Pharmacists are believed to have one of the most well-paid healthcare jobs in the industry. Ca... middle of paper... Personally, I wasn't sure about the salaries for this profession. I had a feeling the salary would start out painfully low, but would eventually increase the more I dedicated myself to it. It all depends on whether I choose to pursue this goal or not. Considering everything that goes with being a pharmacist or a professor, I feel very strongly about doing one of these professions. I really enjoy doing things for the good of humanity and being a pharmacist is a way to help people overcome things like illness. Being a professor is rewarding in its own sense because it allows me to teach young people something that I am truly very passionate about. Lastly, I find professions to be very expensive to study and this would be the only deterrent in pursuing one of these careers. The simple fact that maybe I won't be able to find work and then I'd be out and about $150,000.
