Much of the fighting occurred in the south and cities were devastated. People across the United States agreed that the South needed to be rebuilt. There were several plans drawn up to help rebuild the South. People had different ideas about which plan to use, and no one could agree on a plan. This period of rebuilding the South is called Reconstruction. There were three main floors. There was the Lincoln Plan, the Radical Republican Plan, and the Johnson Plan. The Lincoln Plan is named after Abraham Lincoln, the creator of this plan. The Radical Republican Plan was the congress. It got its name because it was considered a more radical, or extreme, plan. So, Johnson's plan is named after the creator, Andrew Johnson. This plan was also sometimes called “Restoration”. The plan that was best for the nation was the Lincoln Plan.
