The view of same-sex marriage through symbolic interactionism is more acceptable than the functionalist view. Marriage is considered a constitutional law and gives the right to most Americans to legally marry. Yet, in most states, same-sex marriage has been a major issue for people who oppose these new changes in their society. People still continue to follow traditional marriage and believe that it should remain neutral in this way. People are not used to change in general and consider things that are not normal for them to be bad. Gay men definitely have difficulties when it comes to expressing their love through marriage. Society uses the media primarily to represent what makes a “normal” family. In every TV show you see a man and a woman as husband and wife with their children. Recently, programs have been released in America in which two people of the same sex play husband and wife. These shows are more than entertainment.
