Do you know what Clad Piping is? Do you know what rhetorical analysis is? Well, here's your chance to learn about lined pipes through rhetorical analysis. Rhetorical analysis is a strategy used by the author to organize the method with which he will express his message to the audience. In the rhetorical process, the author researches the target audience and learns their background and expertise. From the research the author will select a message to provide, along with facts, statistics, thoughts and goals. After the author has selected his content, he selects rhetorical strategies and rhetorical appeals to support and reinforce the ideas. To further understand the rhetorical analysis, I selected the article “MesoCoat Offers New Process for Manufacturing Coated Pipe.” This was written in RIGZONE on April 5, 2013. RIGZONE is a website/newsletter that provides news, career opportunities, analytics and upcoming events to energy professionals. Karen Boman is the author of the article and Senior Editor of RIGZONE. His experience covers engineering, drilling, construction, new products and services. The article is written to educate the piping world about the new anti-corrosion coating process applied to pipes. The author wants his audience to know that coated pipe manufacturing technology is growing to meet current and future demands. Karen, throughout the article, used several rhetorical strategies and appeals. What will be discussed throughout the essay are cause and/or effect analysis, comparison and contrast, and exemplification. The appeal that will require attention and discussion in the essay is logos. To further delve into the strategies and attractiveness, I will use det...... half of the document ......strates such as growth, expansion and expenses were managed by MesoCad. Karen undoubtedly used the exemplification to its fullest to demonstrate that MesoCad has the ability to expand its manufacturing facilities overseas. Comparison and contrast were also used by Karen. He did a respectable job, but there was insufficient information regarding his analyzes of anti-corrosive materials and erosive materials. To really get his message across, he needed to delve more into the differences in materials. Karen uses logos to illustrate that coated pipes are experiencing increased growth and demand. On a personal level, I wish he had used the rhetorical strategy to elaborate more on the details of the production process. As an industrial technology student, it would have been an advantage to know more about how the coated pipe manufacturing process works.3
