Neurocognitive disorders: Neurocognitive disorders can generally be described as diseases that contribute to impaired or reduced cognitive function. These disorders are mainly caused by physical changes that affect the brain and make it difficult for an individual to function effectively. Patients with neurocognitive disorders are usually examined through neuropsychological testing to identify and understand the neurocognitive deficit. These tests are followed by taking effective measures to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected individual. Some of the most common neurocognitive disorders include dementia in older adults, Parkinson's disease, and traumatic brain injuries. Dementia in the elderly: dementia is one of the main neurocognitive diseases of the elderly whose incidence increases with increasing age (Verghese et. al., 2003). , p.2508). This condition has become increasingly widespread in almost all societies, to the point that a considerable proportion of elderly patients admitted to general hospitals are elderly sufferers. Although various preventive measures have been taken to contain the spread of the disease, the increasing aging of the population means that dementia will become more widespread. The prevalence of dementia in the elderly has contributed to numerous studies and research to identify effective preventive measures due to the apparent unavailability of appropriate treatment. In an attempt to identify an adequate preventive measure, Verghese et al (2003), conducted an analysis on recreational activities and risk of dementia in older adults given the increase in dementia with increasing age (p.2508). These researchers recognize that preventing dementia among older adults has become... middle of paper... largely because of the frequency with which older adults suffer from it. There is a need to refocus research efforts on this important public health issue to prevent its prevalence among older adults and identify specific care needs to promote best patient outcomes. Conclusion: Neurocognitive disorders are diseases that are more likely to occur among older adults than among younger adults. especially due to his advanced age. Although increasing age plays a crucial role in the onset of these diseases, they are usually associated with other factors depending on the specific disorder. Furthermore, diseases have different impacts on the patient and require the development of effective protective measures to prevent their spread and effects on the aging population. In essence, significant research initiatives should be undertaken to address these public health issues.
