The employment relationship is the only reason why public and private corporations operate effectively. The employment relationship is a fragile bond between an employer "management" and an employee "worker". This relationship can be influenced by 3 factors which are interests, control and motivation. Employers must balance these factors to maintain a productive working relationship. The working relationship works like any other relationship, commitment is required from both parties. In this case the employer and the employee must have a form of understanding and the objectives must be common. This is not impossible, so both parties agree to a mutual decision, however interests can conflict and have done so in the past. A recent example of this would be British Airways. British Airways (BA) has been operating successfully for 90 years, however disputes between management and cabin crew may still occur. After suffering the recent loss due to recession, BA decided to make some changes to survive in the competitive market. These changes were aimed at workers, particularly cabin crew, BA had to cut jobs and make major changes to employees' working conditions, in order to compensate for lower passenger numbers during and after the recession. This has led a union called Unite, which represents 12,000 crew members, to intervene against this decision when employees ask for help. The situation got out of control and BA employees threatened to take action in the form of a strike lasting more than 10 days, thus a big loss for BA, with up to 650 flights operating every day, i.e. 80,000 passengers, staff cabin is in trouble root of the business and may force BA out of business, without... half of paper... ship.
