Vladimir and Estragon come into contact with desperation when they meet Pozzo and Lucky. Lucky is more of an optional slave, more of a servant with broken morals. Pozzo tortures him, teasing and embarrassing him as he tries to show off his mule. Vladimir and Estragon disapprove of Pozzo's actions towards the innocent Lucky. Their obligatory waiting has already become hostile once and they resemble Pozzo and Lucky. They are not the most respectful but the change happens as Godot does not arrive. They also meet a boy who says he is very fond of Godot and gives them a message from him, telling Vladimir that he will be there to meet him tomorrow. This message gives waiters more reason to set aside other travellers' comments. This message from the boy increases their hope in this seemingly powerful one
