Once a woman has purchased supplies and rented a car, she doesn't have much money left and that's when she gets into debt. However, SEWA brings women together and they support each other. SEWA has also brought some additional benefits to women, such as the fact that women now have more power within their own family. Husbands often don't like them to work, but once they start contributing to the family income, they like it. Women gain more power within the family and are more respected by their husbands because they contribute to the income. This also applies to Kerala. This had the effect of women gaining a greater voice in society, education for all girls, and greater employment opportunities (Jeffry, 2005). When women have the opportunity to own land or earn an income, this has social effects that have been demonstrated in both Kerala and SEWA. SEWA offers women a safety net if something happens to them or their family. SEWA also focuses on education on how to improve the quality of work. More qualified women teach less qualified women.
