Globalizing means “extending to other or all parts of the globe; produce all over the world” (Dictionary.com, 2010). Although globalization is a fairly “new” term, it is actually as old as our ancestors. The process was longer then, but as they discovered new foreign lands, they brought trade and culture with them. Silks, spices and crops were exchanged along trade routes and opened up new worlds of luxury and taste. Today, globalization has influenced our modern world far beyond the wildest dreams of those predecessors. Western culture has infiltrated almost every corner of the globe. Its capital, infrastructure, knowledge and talent can be found everywhere. It has a dramatic impact on India and China. These countries in turn transmitted their influence to other countries as well. It's an endless domino effect that circles the globe. Some of the Western influence has been intentional and negative, but the overall effects are positive on countries' economies and cultures. China is renowned for its nationalism and opposition to the West. It was only in the 1970s, when Deng Xiaoping allowed other countries to enter China, that they began their journey towards globalization. Even after this huge leap forward, a mixed market economy with trade did not materialize until the 1990s. The former leader, Mao Zedong, had established a communist government. Under Mao's rule, the people had no voice or choice. Businesses, temples, schools, and medical care were governed by Mao. He ordered the destruction of many ancient temples and adorned the city with his portraits to remind citizens of his power. Jobs were awarded to those with the best skills and what the government deemed suitable for the individual...... middle of paper .......
