A nurse has many responsibilities in her job. In carrying out these duties, it is essential that they maintain good professional character. What is good professional character and how is it integrated into the world of work? This article will delve into the different character traits that the professional nurse should possess. These traits include the ability to distinguish "right from wrong, think and act rationally, keep promises and honor obligations, be responsible for one's behavior, recognize and honor interpersonal boundaries, and promptly and fully disclose facts, circumstances, events, mistakes / omissions” (Nursing, Texas Board of, 2013). What does this mean? Nursing Advice refers to the temperament of nurses, their behavior. How does all this integrate into the many aspects of our lives? Whether referring to an academic, personal or professional context, a person's character should remain constant. There is no difference between these settings, some challenges may be different, but the character of the person... half of the document... terms of responsibility all talk about what is expected of a nurse when it comes to their responsibility of the actions taken. The nurse must not only admit that she has made a mistake, but must take responsibility for her mistake. This liability could take many different forms, from lawsuits to reassessments to resolutions. What is important about this section is that it specifies that the nurse must own up to their actions and take responsibility for what they did, even if they did not intend to hurt anyone. Being responsible for your actions can be difficult. Having a consequence forced upon you when there could be a million reasons why the action happened in the first place is hard to stomach. This dilemma goes back to ethics. Morally understand that you must be responsible and take responsibility for the action, regardless of the circumstances surrounding it.
